Here is a list of several of the the most commonly asked questions on this forum with answers: 1. When I try to patch, it always says "timeout". What do I do? Try temporarily disabling your firewall and antivirus and making sure that Launcher.exe and SFrame.exe are added to your firewall exceptions list. If it still won't patch, contact tech support. (thanks to Colbeagle for this answer)
2. Why do I get disconnected from the server every time I try to make a character? There is a timer on the character creation screen. It is best to come in with an idea of what you want your character to look like and several possible names.
3. Which class should I choose? My advice on this issue is to pick whatever class you think looks fun. If you like healing and buffing, go Cleric. If you like being sneaky and hiding in the shadows, go Strider (and transfer to Assassin at second job). If you like using bows, make a bow-using Fighter (and go Archer at second job). I could continue, but you get my point. Class descriptions can be found here:http://rappelz.alizarinhq.com/class/. You can also check out the official race description videos here: http://rappelz.gpotato.com/download/tutorial.php
4. Where do I get a mount? You can get a mount (Ornitho) at the Adventure Guide in any city. In Laksy, the Adventure Guide is located at the anchor, not in the main city. You can also get faster mounts (Lydians) through the cash shop. You also get a 1 hour Ornitho from Sistina, the second newbie trainer on Trainee's Island, as a quest reward.
5. My friend and I are both in the town on Trainee's Island but we can't see each other. Why? Two possible reasons: first of all, check the top of your mini-map at the top right hand corner of your screen. It will say your location and a number. If the numbers are different, you are on different channels. To get on the same channel, go to the teleporter npc and select "change the channel", then select the channel your friend is on. If you are on the same channel, then you probably have people turned off in town. To fix this, go to options (alt+o) and checck the box that says "show people and pets in town". If that still doesn't work, then you are probably on different servers.
6. Is it possible to switch characters between servers? No.
7. How do I shout? You must be level 20 to shout. Once you reach level 20, you can shout by putting a ! in front of whatever you say. Example: if you want to shout Hello world!, you would type !Hello world! in the chat window. Note that if you shout too much, your hp and mp will take damage.
8. What is OB? OB is overbreeding. There are two types of overbreeding: pet and character. Pet overbreeding is taking a pet to level 60 before evolving it to evo 2 (pets can get to evo 2 at level 50). This opens up another set of passive skills that you can teach your pet. Additionally, your pet will gain 2 jp per level instead of 1. You cna also OB your pet at evo 3. For the OB at evo 3 you will take your pet to level 115 before you evolve it (pets can get to evo 3 at lvl 100). Character overbreeding is taking a character to job level 50 before transferring to your second job. Character OB gives about 4-5 points in each stat except luck, which gets 2 points. Character OB has nothing to do with level, just job level. Typically people finish OB around lvl 55-60 depending on class, how many times they died, and how many skills they maxed out beforehand. Any skills that you did not max before you transferred your job can still be leveled up after your job transfer.
9. How do I set up a shop? Type /shop in the chat window and drag any items you want to sell into the window. If you change the prices significantly from the "suggested" prices it will warn you. Just click confirm and your shop will set up. You can switch between buying and selling by clicking the buttons at the top of the shop window. Note that you can only buy something if you have one of that item already.
10. Where do I buy pet cards? You can buy Pantera, Poultry, and Tortus cards at the merchant npc in any town except on Trainee's Island (8000r). If you are a summoner class, you will get one as a quest reward from the summoner on Trainee's Island. Other pet cards can only be bought from other players or farmed from mobs that look like the pet you want.
11. How do I tame my pet? First of all, unless you get the card from an npc (Pantera, Poultry, or Tortus), I would recommend finding a tamer to tame the card for you. Just shout in world chat that you are looking for a good tamer and you should get a response. Some will charge you, so ask them their price before you agree to use them. If you want to tame your own pet, here are the steps: Look on the card, it will tell you which mobs you can tame. For the npc pets it is any mob under level 30 that looks like the pet. The npc pets can all be found near the town of Horizen (or on Trainee's Island). Find a mob with full hp and cast your taming skill. When it is finished, the mob will attack you. You need to kill it. Once it is dead, a message will tell you whether it succeeded or failed. If the taming fails, you will lose your card.
12. Ok, I tamed a pet. Now how do I summon it? Open your creature formation window (alt+y) and double click the tamed pet card. It will appear in the formation window. Click OK. Then you be able to summon your pet using the Summon Creature skill.
13. How do I give a weapon to my pet? First buy the weapon you wish to use (2h swords and 2h axes are the best for most pets). Upgrade it if you want (not necessary though). Then go to the Merchant npc and purchase a unit card (500r). Combine the weapon with the unit card then drag the combined weapon into one of the slots below the creature's image in the creature formation window (alt+y). You can do the same thing with armor.
14. How do I remove a weapon from a unit card? Buy a Chalk of Restoration from the Merchant npc (1000r). Combine it with the unit card item and it will be restored. All +, levels, and soulstones will be intact.
15. I bought a weapon/armor but I can't equip it. Why? Two possible reasons: First, it could be the wrong level for you. If you click on the weapon once it will show its stats and requirements. Check the required level. If you aren't the required level, you will not be able to equip it. If it is an armor, it will also have race and class requirements. Check to see if you meet those as well. If you meet all of the requirements, it is probably in a unit card (it will have a border and a little sun symbol on it). See number 14 for directions on how to remove it.
16. What do I do when my Trainee's Tent runs out? Unless you want to buy a new one from the cash shop you just continue without it. You don't need stamina to play the game, it just helps you level faster.
17. How do I combine stuff? Its pretty simple really. First of all, the only things you can combine are weapons, armor, and cards (with skill cubes) as well as items with unit cards to use on pets and better chaos stones for your chaos necklace. For weapons and armor, just place the cube (defense for armor, strike for weapon) and the equipment you want to enchant in the combination window and hit combine. It will either succeed or fail, with your chance to fail increasing with every enchantment. While no enchantment level is safe, it is generally fairly safe to get to +3 unless you are very unlucky and I usually am able to get to +5 on rank 2 equipment. Just remember that the rank of the cube must match the rank of the item you are enchanting. For cards, it is slightly more complicated. To make a +2 card, you need 2 +1 skill cards and a skill cube. Put them all together in the combination window and hit combine. It will either succeed or fail (about 60-70% chance of failure). To make a +3 card, you need 2 +2 cards and a skill cube. For a +4, 2 +3 and a skill cube, and so on. Very few people have cards higher than +5.
18. What level can I change to my second job? Level 50 and job level 40. You can also overbreed your job level to 50 if you like. See number 8 for more info on overbreeding. Job transfer is not level dependent once you reach level 50 (i.e. you don't have to change jobs right at 50). Overbreeding usually takes several extra levels beyond 50.
19. I'm having problems starting the game and I use Vista. Any help? Read this guide: http://rappelz-forum.gpotato.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=636523&sid=d5c9a9c3e46df19ca1f55022b80422eb
20. Can I use WASD to move? No. WASD is not in the game and there are no plans to implement it. Ever.
Beginner Guide: so you've left the island, now what...? - Written by Balouch, updated by me Ok, so I found this beginners guide floating around the forums. Its old, but most of the information is still good, so I decided to post it here and update it a bit. Edited portions in red.
Okay, so now you're around level 13-15, you've left the trainee island and you're ready to explore. What do you do first?
-[[ Quests ]]-
From now on, until around level 28ish or so, you're going to be doing quests. Quests not only give you great rewards in Exp, JP, force / soul chips, cash, potions (including stamina and mana potions) and loot - they also give you a reason to grind. It goes a LOT faster when you think of the reward at the end of that 20th Orc, etc.
Every city will have a bunch of quests for you to do, and many of them are multipart quests. As the quests get more difficult, the rewards will get better. Boss quests (quests which require you to kill a named monster) usually have great rewards of stamina potions or loot.
What I suggest you do is go around to every NPC in the city and talk to anyone with a quest symbol (lightning bolt) over their head. Get ALL the available quests before heading out, because (1) lots of quest monster over lap, so you'll be getting credit towards 2 quests for each monster you kill (2) lots of monsters are near each other so you can save time and (3) if you get bored of one area, you can always do part of another quest.
Okay, so you're done all the quests you can find in your home city, now what? Simple, pick one of the two other cities and head there. Talk to the teleporter and make it your new resurrection spot - because now you're going to do ALL these quests too. And when you're done these, go do the ones in the last city. By the time you're done all, you should be in your high twenties somewhere.
-[[ Equipment ]]-
When you hit level 20, you will need to spend a lot of money on your new equipment. Not only will you need a weapon, armor, gloves, shoes, belt and helm, you will also be in the market for rings, earrings, strike cubes and defense cubes. I suggest you start saving all of your lak from the moment you leave the island until you hit level 20. This will give you a very nice boost towards your new gear. If you do the quests you will never be too short on chips anyways, and if you ever are, try to buy them instead of turning in lak... this way you will never dip into your level 20 fund.
+4 Level 5 - This is what you want your items to be at for a minimum. +4 is the highest safe enchantment level for in game equipment, after this point you will have a chance of failing the enchantment. Level 5 is the minimum you want to invest into your items, because they directly affect how fast you kill and how often you're going to die. Remember, you don't have to do it all at once, and the equipments level requirement will increase with each upgrade... so try to pace it with your leveling. Just so you guys know, +4 is no longer safe. Items can now fail on +1. However, this is very rare. For the most part, items can be made to +3 safely and +4/+5 is mostly safe (but be careful going above +3 if you don't have the resources to replace the item)
You should initially focus on getting 4 strike cubes and 4 defense cubes, and use them on your main armor and your weapon. After that, slowly start getting the rest of your armor to +4. No real need to + any of your other gear (helm, boots, gloves, belt) since the bonus is negligible.
Rings, earrings - rings help every class, and have dropped dramatically in price. Get a pair as soon as you can. Earrings can be a lot more expensive than rings, but again they add great stats, so make the investment as soon as you can. Remember, every time you make yourself stronger, you will kill more / faster / harder monsters, so it will pay off. Don't be too cheap to invest in yourself.
-[[ Cards ]]-
A card in an item in your inventory that you can equip, and while it's equipped, it will add certain stats to the spell it's designed for.
Cards can be a very important addition. Some cards are a lot better than others; however most cards tend to add +1 to the level of the spell.
Two of the same card can be combined together using a skill cube BUT be careful, there is a fair chance of failure and if you do fail, you lose everything in the combination. See which spells you use most often, and start looking around for those cards in particular, as you level you will eventually want to get all your cards... and start trying to make some +2s. It is risky, but it's worth the payoff, it will make you stronger and that is the most important thing.
-[[ Items ]]-
I've found the following merchant items very useful. Red / Orange potion level 3: These are your best friend, and even if you have some sort of life leech spell, you should definately have some of these handy for emergency situation. Wind / Quick / Spell potions: These will help you kill a lot faster, and run away from a monster if you're having trouble. Remember, the rupees are there for you to invest in your leveling, so don't be too stingy, at least try out a hunting session with the potions. Resurection scrolls: Theses are very useful, both to revive your pet or a party member, so have some handy for bad situations.
-[[ Grouping (Partying) ]]-
There are many times when you will need to group with people. For example, if you're in an area killing a particular monster for a quest, and you notice someone else is competing for the same monster, then you should ask them if they are also doing the same quest. If they are, you can group and you will both get credit for each kill. Also, for many of the "boss" quests, you will need a group.
If you're looking for a group, first go to the area you need to be at. So if you want a group to kill a boss, go to that area and see if there are any groups. If not, use the ! command to shout for a group. State your job, level and what quest you're doing. Also, be patient, sometimes it will take a while.
When you're in a group, there is no benefit to acting like an idiot. The less pleasant you are, the more people will try to avoid you in future. There are many people that I personally refuse to group with because they are not good groupers.
Be cleric conscious. What this means is, don't think of clerics as an automatic healing and buffing bot. You don't need to shout HEAL HEAL if your health is going down, they see your health just as well as you do, and yelling won't help the situation. Also, if your health is going down fast, and you're not being healed, quickly look at the cleric, if they are in the middle of a heal spell on somebody else, you will need to fend for yourself. One way is to use potions; the other is to Character Log. Press Alt Z, and click on Character Log (Character Selection). It will temporarily log you out to character select. When you get back, you will be in the same spot, in the party, and the monster won't be attacking you.
HOWEVER... remember if you're the main tank and you do that, the monster will agro on someone else, so that sparingly / wisely. If your buffs are dying out, give the cleric a little time to rebuff before saying "BUFFS ARE DYING LOL REBUFF K THX". Also, you should give your cleric a break from fighting when they rebuff your party. Remember, if you're being a jerk to the cleric... it's really easy for him or her to "forget" to heal you. Your life is in their hands, so be polite.
On that note, if you are the cleric in the group, one trick is to buff yourself before everyone else. That way, when you notice your own buffs dying out, you will know it's time for everyone to get rebuffed. You should politely ask everyone to "Stop after this kill so I can rebuff".
Need Before Greed - When you join a group, ask everyone if you're doing need before greed for drops, or if you're just doing everything on random. Need before greed is when drops are distributed based on who can use them. So if there is a Holy Warrior and a Strider in a group, and a Holy Warrior card goes to the Strider, he would then give it to the Holy Warrior, because its NEED before GREED. Need Before Greed doesn't seem very popular in this game, but asking in the beginning saves you some hassle. Also, if you get an item that someone in the group can use, offer to sell it to them at a slightly discounted price. That way, you'll make a new friend, and you'll also sell your item. Losing a few thousand rupees doing this will pay off in the end.
Don't DISSAPEAR. Nobody likes someone who just leaves the group half way through. If you're going to leave, give some notice, and try to find a replacement. This is VERY important if you're either the main tank or the cleric. If the group loses a damage dealer, they can still function, but without the cleric or main tank, they are rendered useless. So if you're getting bored, tired, sleepy etc, just say "Guys, I've gotta go in about 15 mins", this way everybody knows you're leaving, and can plan accordingly.
Keep negativity to a minimum. Remember, a lot of people who play this game are not native English speakers, and there can often be miscommunications. Don't get negative if someone does something wrong, try to sort it out in a positive manner. A party with a lot of negativity is not productive, won't last long and most importantly, it's just not fun. Remember, you're playing an MMO because you want to be playing with other people, so try to talk, crack jokes, and have fun.
-[[ Pets ]]-
Pets can seem very useless but at higher levels they get much better. Also, at level 40, you can equip your pet on your belt and get a stat bonus increase. Pantera: Str, Poultry: Agi, Tortus: Vit. After you get some pet passives and after you upgrade your pets Exp and JP acquisition rate, your pet will definitely level a lot faster. At level 10, you can equip your pet with a unit card. You can purchase an empty unit card at the merchant, and then combine it with an item. Best thing is to give your pet a weapon. The most commonly used weapons are either an axe or mace. At level 30, you can equip your pet with a second item. Although you get a passive on your pet for Warrior Armor, I would suggest using R2 gloves. This will increase your pets accuracy a little. Keep your pet summoned at all times, or there is no point in having it, when he is summoned he will get 10% of the exp you gain. Disregard the information about equipping pets with unit cards. You can now use 2 pieces of equipment from the moment you get your pet. Also, gloves no longer increase accuracy, so disregard that information as well. All pets should be equipped with a weapon and warrior armor (unless they have a passive for hunter armor).
-[[ Chips ]]-
After level 20, use soul / force chips. Although you might feel the urge to save them and use them only on "the boss", you need to remember that chips help you kill faster, which means you'll kill more monsters, which means you'll level faster and get more drops. The best way to make money is off drops not saving your chips, so use them as often as you can, and turn in your laks for chips, not cash. Leveling faster will pay off a lot more than being cheap with chips, you'll get to kill higher level stuff, get more drops and hit 50 before you know it.
-[[ Selling ]]-
If you get a drop, and you don't really know the price of the item, ask your guild mates or friends. If they can't give you a general price range (which should be rare because most people know most cards now), shout that you have the card and you're looking for offers. Say something like "WTS> +1 Nightmare Card, Serious Offers Only". If you try to get a price check on an item, a lot of times people will sniff a noob and try to rip you off.
Setting up shop is a good way to make use of the time you're not actively playing your character. I suggest 3 things. (1) try to go to the same spot all the time. People will begin to recognize your shop, and instinctively they will check it, specially if they saw something nice in it before (2) make your prices cheaper than market. So if something is going for 35k, prices yours at 29.9k. It will sell faster, and people will begin to recognize your shop as a place for good deals (3) don't pick an arrogant name... like "my garbage". Instinctively, a lot of people won't bother looking, and some will be offended.
-[[ Game terminology ]]-
WTS .......... - Want To Sell WTB .......... - Want To Buy WTT .......... - Want To Trade LFG ........... - Looking For Group LFM ........... - Looking For More DD ............ - Damage Dealers DM ............ - Dark Magi HW ............ - Holy Warrior TP ............. - Teleport WRU .......... - Where Are You BRT ........... - Be Right There Dungeon..... - This area is the Lost Mines. You can locate it on your map to the north of First Valmore Mines. Don't attempt to go here alone, because you'll die without someone to guide you to the portal. There are now more dungeons. The lowest level dungeon is Relics of Arid Moonlight (also called DMR or moon). I would recommend going there beginning around level 30. Lost Mines is now mainly for 50+ parties. After that is Crystal Valley (65+) and Palmir Plateau (80+).
Thats all I could think of for now...more to come later if I remember them.
